The path leads slightly downhill, over meadows and pastures without much difference in altitude. Through the beautiful larch forest to Austriahütte with the interesting Alpine Museum. Along the entire route you will be accompanied by the imposing mountain panorama.

After about 10 minutes ascent from the hut, you reach the “Brandriedel”. From here you have a wonderful panoramic view of Ramsau am Dachstein, the Schladminger Tauern and the Dachstein. The hotel Matschner is situated slightly downhill, along a beautiful forest path.

“Rittisberg Round”- Halseralm and Sonnenalm

Family attractions, huts and other hiking tours to the mountain experience Rittisberg

Directly from the Hotel Matschner you hike over the Tannenweg in the direction Rittisberg. There  the beautiful wide trail begins. First slightly uphill, then along picturesque meadows.

You walk about 45 minutes to the Halseralm, a 400-year-old farmhouse without electricity – but famous for its flambéed Kaiserschmarrn.

If you hike up a quarter of an hour, you will come to the “Sonnenalm”. On the large sun terrace you can enjoy the view into the Tauern. Your host Gerhard will entertain you, he is one of the funniest landlords in Ennstal. After the cosy stop, you first walk about 20 minutes along a forest path until you come back to a forest road. Walk slightly downhill to the “Ochsenalm” and then again along forest trails passing a fish pond to “Tannenweg”. From here it is a comfortable walk back to the hotel.

Hiking time around 4 hours. Easy walk to warm up at the beginning of the holiday.

Ascent to the Dachstein Glacier

Summer and winter glacier experience at 2700m above sea level

Already the ascent with the Dachstein gondola is an experience. The gondola “conquers” over 1,000 vertical meters and you almost “float” close to the steep rock walls. Arriving at 2,700 m above sea level, you can enjoy a fantastic panorama with hundreds of mountain peaks.

The “Dachstein Ice Palace” takes you deep into the heart of the Dachstein glacier. Immerse yourself in a frosty, fascinating world of ice, let yourself be enchanted by glistening glacial ice.

Right next to the Dachstein Ice Palace the highest suspension bridge in Austria is situated. From here you can enjoy a unique view. An additional thrill was created with the “Stairway to the Nothingness.” Anyone who enters the glass platform at the bottom of the staircase is standing above the 400-meter-high rock walls as if in the air.

Another big attractions is the “Dachstein Sky Walk” directly at the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car. Probably the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps. Situated at the top of the 250 meter steep rock face of the Hunerkogel. Parts of the floor are made of glass – an incomparable view into the deepness is guaranteed!

After the sightseeing, the perfect option would be a simple glacier hike to the Dachsteinwarte (Seethaler Hütte at 2,740 m). From the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car you hike past the “Dirndl”, which juts out of the glacier like a ship’s bow. Then uphill and slightly left to the small Seethalerhütte. It offers a truly breathtaking view of the Dachstein south walls. To go back take the same way.

Duisitzkarsee 1213 – 1648 m

Hike to Duisitzkarsee

Hidden between high and steep mountains, the almost circular Duisitzkar lake is situated in a valley. A gem of nature in the Schladminger Tauern.

You take the car or bus to Schladming-Rohrmoos and from here to the Obertal valley to the station “Eschachalm” (1,213 m).

The tour goes from here the narrow and steep trail no. 775 leads in serpentines through a forest to a small pasture, the “Saghütten”. You reach the Dusitzkar after a 1 ½ hours walk. Anyone who steps out of the forest for the first time and sees the magnificent mountain panorama will be thrilled. After a few steps you reach two alpine huts with a beautiful fountain and see for the first time the almost circular Duisitzkarsee below. Cozy little cabins give the lake its special touch. Depending on the position of the sun and the wind, the sea surface reflects the surroundings. One should take time for this nature experience.

You hike on a beautiful varied trail to “Rippeteck” (2,126m). From Rippeteck it goes along a steep section to the Gassl lakes, the lower Gassl lake is called “Spiegelsee – Mirror lake” because of the beautiful Dachstein mirroring inside the lake. From here you have an impressive view of the Dachstein south walls, the Bischofsmütze, the chamois area as well as the Alm area and the Tauern in the south. After a rest and a gentle descent, you hike on through the “Schnittlauchboden “(named so because of wild-growing, highly fragrant chives) to the Bachlalm, which invites you to stop for a bite and feed marmots. 5 huts walk – The classic

From the high plateau into the Ramsau alpine region

You hike one of the most beautiful alpine walks in the region. From Hotel Matschner the path leads past beautiful farms to hiking trail no. 671. At Gasthof Edelbrunn you decide whether you take the steep ascent via the Roseggersteig or via the forest path signposted with the 5-hut trail – the classic, to the Austriahütte.

From here you walk to the Dachstein cable car station. Here the way to the Südwandhütte (1,910 m) begins. You walk directly below the cable car. Up to the “Schwadering”, where usually a waterfall flows over the rocks. Also in the summer time a snowfield must be crossed. After a little refreshment at the Südwand hut, you descend behind the hut to the Maralmboden (ONLY FOR trained hikers – root path – high steps – sometimes slippery) – please keep left – near the small river we recommend a short rest. From Maralmboden turn left to Almhüttendorf Neustattalm. Continue to the Glösalm and after a short rest take the way to Schlitzenalm (1 road bend above the Glösalm) back to Ramsau Ort. Along the entire route you will be accompanied by the imposing mountain panorama.
