Austria’s first nature and environment adventure trail for children
Children can learn about nature in a playful way on the Sattelberg nature and environmental adventure trail. Together with “Kali the Ramsaurian” children & adults hike on a 4 km long forest trail and explore the environment and the connections of nature. Spread over 17 specially designed stations, there are themes like people and wild animals, protect the wood ants, the wonderful world of the forest floor or you enjoy the magnificent view from the summit cross.
The starting and ending point of the hiking trail is in Obere Leiten. Directly from the Hotel Matschner you can hike comfortably along the Philosophenweg in the direction of the Catholic Church in Ramsau Kulm. The children’s educational trail starts from here after a 20-minute walk. It starts across hilly and flat forest terrain with several clearings. The path now divides into the stroller path and the hiking trail over the Sattelberg summit.
For about an hour you hike uphill on an eventful narrow path, past rocks and fossil rock formations. Kali shows up from time to time and asks funny quiz questions. The children get the answers immediately on the next board and provide the necessary motivational boost.
You should calculate about 3 hours for the entire walking time. The Sattelberghütte is a great place to stop for refreshments and a stopover. There is a petting zoo, forest playground and a cozy sun terrace with delicious alpine cuisine.
Children´s playground Sattelberg & Kalis Zwergerl farm
For parents with small children there is a separate pram trail on the Kinderberg Sattelberg. In about 30 minutes, it leads from the starting point along a wide gravel path to the Sattelberghütte. Here, near the hut, is Kalis Zwergerl farm for little hikers.
Kali’s Shuttle Service: The journey with the Kali Express as a return transfer from the Sattelberghütte to the starting point is free with the Sommercard! During July and August, the Kali Express takes you from the Sattelberghütte back to the starting point of the hike or to the Old Mill. There is also the entrance to the Kali, Kala, Kalo and Heidi via ferratas for children.
