Ascent to the Dachstein Glacier
Summer and winter glacier experience at 2700m above sea level
Already the ascent to the Dachstein Glacier with gondola is an experience. The gondola “conquers” over 1,000 vertical meters and you almost “float” close to the steep rock walls. Arriving at 2,700 m above sea level, you can enjoy a fantastic panorama with hundreds of mountain peaks.
The “Dachstein Ice Palace” takes you deep into the heart of the Dachstein glacier. Immerse yourself in a frosty, fascinating world of ice, let yourself be enchanted by glistening glacial ice.
Right next to the Dachstein Ice Palace the highest suspension bridge in Austria is situated. From here you can enjoy a unique view. An additional thrill was created with the “Stairway to the Nothingness.” Anyone who enters the glass platform at the bottom of the staircase is standing above the 400-meter-high rock walls as if in the air.
Another big attractions is the “Dachstein Sky Walk” directly at the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car. Probably the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps. Situated at the top of the 250 meter steep rock face of the Hunerkogel. Parts of the floor are made of glass – an incomparable view into the deepness is guaranteed!
After the sightseeing, the perfect option would be a simple glacier hike to the Dachsteinwarte (Seethaler Hütte at 2,740 m). From the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car you hike past the “Dirndl”, which juts out of the glacier like a ship’s bow. Then uphill and slightly left to the small Seethalerhütte. It offers a truly breathtaking view of the Dachstein south walls. To go back take the same way. Walking time about 45 minutes.
